Let's play a game!

So yeah, it was about time for a new blog post. The sun is out, which makes me want to buy a handmade leather backpack. With an "Innovative Side Bottle Pocket".

Since pockets are so innovative, especially the bottle ones, I needed this bag.
But it was a bit expensive ($81,93) and the stench of foul play reeked.

So I decided to broaden my search area & included eBay, just for the hell of it.

I was not disappointed.

I didn't really understand what was going on, so I messaged the seller on Etsy. We had a nice chat, which ended up in a repetitive loop of copy & paste.

After my last message, she copy & pasted again. In the end, I guess she grew kind of tired and sent me a pic of her making the bag:

Which made me more confused. So either this woman is lying, or the eBay seller stole her design.

Anyhoo, I want to play a game. NiceLeatherGoods has a ton of handmade bags & some of them are also showing up on other pages.

Who of you can spot at least one? And can someone explain why the picture says NiceDeal 53, but her Etsy shop has a different name? And who is the eBay seller? Does this person also have an Etsy account?

If you've solved the mystery, leave a comment! I will pick one winner and this person will get a blogpost about their shop/product/pet. Which is a quite a good deal, since this page now has approx. 500 make that 400 visits a day.

  1. This Etsy seller (Olive) has another shop here under the name Nicedeal53

So if they copy photos from there to etsy then maybe they don´t remove the watermark.
The Ebay seller is also from India, maybe the same person under a different username again or a collective. Could be a family business.
Why not email the Ebay seller and ask some random info, and see if they use the same name, Olive or something else?

The woman in the photo looks like she´s really making a bag, probably this

So i would double check if i were you, before picking on possibly legit sellers.

    1. Thanks for your input! I didn't report them yet, I just wanted to know what the deal is. I must say the picture is most intriguing...

  2. Okay so the Ebay store that sells this bag has an etsy shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/KrishnaaCrafts

Check it out, they sell the same items as "Olive" from niceleathergoods does - and the funniest part is, the "policies" and "about seller" pages from both etsy shops read very much the same. I love that the Ebay site (under the celtic tree of life journal" says they are all made by "art students". So KrishnaaCrafts has some sort of team working on the items, while niceleathergoods has only "olive" (who manages to do it all herself with two cute kids none the less! My guess is it's one place trying a few differnt approaches on etsy to see if they can appeal to a broad ranger of buyers.

  3. Now This is awesome - Here's a facebook post I just found: https://www.facebook.com/EtsyItems/posts/304606042984648

This guy says he owns etsy shop "nicedeal53" however his etsy shop links up to niceleathergoods. Check out his about page - he's male, interested in women. He hails from the same place in India as the sellers Krishnaacrafts on etsy and ebay. Guess Olive is a dude, and he has a lot of branches.

  4. Probably all shops belong to the same people. Must be the wife or mom at the sewing machine :)Both etsy shops use the same kind of language and symbols in their policies. Probably figured if one gets too much bad feedback or gets shut down, it´s better to have a spare.
Whoever writes for the Krishnaa shop must be rather young or familiar with internet language , he´s using a lot of " :) " " :D " and u´s
Doesn´t have to be a reseller, my opinion a group of people/family selling under several accounts.

Wondering how many women are called "olive" in India.

I was thinking this while doing the dishes.

  5. And another thing , a little off topic but anyway.
It´s good to expose these resellers, providing they are truly verified resellers, because some innocent shops had trouble due to being reported and so on. But it won´t make much of a difference, people see their own business, shop, bringing an income and care less for making a point.
I followed the topic on the forums. The people are disturbed but shrug and mind their own business.
I hope someone will make another platform, moderated, with handmade only. And keep it that way. But everyone gives in to more money and ends up going for whatever brings more profit instead. Morales don´t feed you right?
Honestly, i hope you keep this up and maybe along the way help some honest sellers get a boost from all the mass produced stuff out there.

    1. I will definitely try to keep this up & would apologize sincerely if a reseller does happens to be a handmade artist.

Thanks for your input & who knows, in time this will be a great blog :)
